Purpose

HealthEnabled is working with UNICEF in South Africa to assess the opportunities and gaps for using digital tools to support HIV prevention and treatment of children, adolescents and neonates. This initial effort seeks to create a better understanding of the opportunities and gaps for using digital health solutions (technology, systems & capacity) to support the PMNCH continuum of care as well as a better understanding of the opportunities and gaps for using digital health solutions to provide effective SRHR and PMNCH information and support to adolescents.

Activities

HealthEnabled is undertaking the following activities as part of this effort:

  • A review of the health systems implications of a previous UNICEF funded pilot in KZN to introduce EMR with integrated SMS into facilities to communicate with and track pregnant women and the babies.
  • An implementation plan for a pilot real time mother-baby pair tracking system, supported by the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) and the KZN Department of Health.
  • A report with recommendations on digital health solutions for adolescents to get sexual and reproductive health information and advice.
